Tom,
Interesting question.  When my two roadsters were
given to me (an early 67, and a 67.5, the
67 which is now many years and many thousands of
dollars later the much enjoyed SAKE RKT), I noticed
that the 67.5 had the shackles in the typical
"American" position, the springs at the bottom.
I initially thought someone had flipped the shackles
on the car I had decided to keep IOT lower it.
After seeing some other roadsters, it seems the
reverse was true.

Bottom line, even with the rear springs showing some
reverse arch, the "american position, flipped to the
high side" car sat a lot higher in the back.

My car, with shackles in the factory position,
has springs that show about no arch at all,
probably the result of 35 years of sag.  Thats
OK, because they lower the car nicely, and fit
well with my fronts, which I have lowered 1.5 inches.
