You see that's the problem - you thought it would be easy. Nothing usually
goes as planned.

Did you check the internals on the dizzy to make sure nothing came amiss
when you removed it? I can imagine an advance spring coming off that would
cause the problem.

How fast an idle? Mechanical advance starts coming in at around 900 rpms or
so, so you'd have to retard the timing a bit more at idle if you can. I
bought an advance timing light and time it at 3000 rpms to get about 33*
total advance w/vacuum disconnected. It works out to about 22* at idle.

Good luck and I'd double check the internals first - shit happens.

Let's hope we have a nice DRY meet at the Glen. I'm thinking of bringing my
Datsun but almost everytime I brought it it rained like cats and dogs for
the entire weekend and the sun comes out on Monday :(
