List, Vendors,
This engine rebuild is really trying my patience! I figured with 2 blocks and
3 heads I could come up with enough good parts to build 1 good U-20. Nothing
ever comes easy. Here is my dilema, My matching # block is .040 now and needs
to be bored to .060. I ordered a .060 forklift engine kit but didn't realize
the pistons were dished (low compression). My spare block is only .020 over at
the moment but was stored in a car outside without a head and the machine shop
says it is too far gone. I don't really want to spend $400 for new car
flattops that are .060 over. Does anyone have good used .060 over pistons for
a U-20 that they would sell? Or a .020 over or less block in the Denver area?
Will a piston from another application work? Would the 1600 pistons be
streetable at Denver's altitude? I could do a little chamber work on the heads
to lower compression slightly. I would be willing to purchase the correct
pistons to avoid a transplant engine but want to investigate my options before
jumping into high dollar hard to find pistons.
Any advise would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
John Over68 2000Aurora, Co
