I was introduced to a 70 2000 in 1970 while working at a heavy equipment
rental dealer part time after high school. Another part time guy that worked
there and was also a high school student owned it. His dad who was a doctor
bought it for him and so it was his "wheels" while he was in high school. It
was red with a black interior. Anyway, he let me drive it to the doughnut shop
and to lunch pretty much everyday and at the time I thought it was pretty cool
but way too expensive for my meager wages. I didn't give it much thought to
ever owning one. But........ about 23 years later my other "baby" (67 Chevelle
SS) broke and I needed temporary wheels to drive while I was fixing the
chevelle. A friend of mine was in the long process of restoring a 64 1500
3-seater and had got bored with it I think. It had no interior and no paint
but mechanically was finished. So...... I thought, hey, as long as I was
going to drive a "temporary" car, the little 1500 would fit the bill. The wife
didn't think it was very practical but I told her it would be a good
"investment". We could buy it, finish it and then sell it after the Chevelle
was back on the road. That was about 11 years ago. I couldn't help it, it was
just too dang much fun driving it so I still have it. Maybe someday, I'll sell
the "investment" Ha ha.
