Hello everyone. I'm really enjoying the discussions on this list and I'm
finding the information very helpful. Now I have a big question for you:

I've recently purchased a rear clip from a roadster - no axle, just the
sheet metal. It has been suggested to me that I could tie this thing on
the roof of my Ford Taurus wagon (for a 7 hour drive). I have no idea what
it will weigh or the air drag it will cause, but I suppose I could tie the
ropes through the windows of the rear doors of the wagon so it doesn't rip
the roof rack right off the car. I have two choices: show up with my
Taurus and DeWalt saw just in case I need to cut it up to go in the back
and not on the roof, or tow a borrowed trailer for 7 hours each way, which
would be inconvenient but possible. I really need the opinions of the more
experienced guys on this list!

The trunk and floor of the Roadster I'm working on is not bad, it's the
quarter panels that I need. The only reason I would bring the whole clip
home is to give the body shop more flexibility when it comes to welding
the panels on. I'm not sure that attaching the entire clip by welding a
seam sideways across the floor behind the seats is the best way to go
structurally - or is this irrelevant when you have a full frame? Is it
possible to keep my floor and trunk floor intact and have the body shop
transplant the rear exterior sheet metal as one piece (fenders plus deck
plus licence plate area)? maybe the body shop will want to simply cut off
the quarter panels and bringing the clip back as one piece is a big waste
of time? Perhaps I should also mention that this car is likely destined to
be a race car that I paint myself and not a show car.

Thanks in advance,
-Brian Reynolds
