I know it's used extensively with styrene models (the usual plastic for
nearly all auto and train models). I don't know about its vinyl
appetites. It would, of course, be safe around rubber and other
compounds used in brake lines (nitryl/butyl or some such flexible
tubing).
The only complaint with styrene is a slight white haze that remains in
crevices, and a dullness of the formerly shiny styrene surface. This
does make for an excellent surface for repainting styrene though. If
your goal is an unpainted model you are probably at a loss with any type
of stripper. I also don't expect clear plastic (windshields/windows) to
survive without a haze. They'll have to be removed first.
