I had the same thing happen to me. I finally figured it out when I had the
hood up and saw smoke coming up off the throttle cable when I was cranking
the engine! ("Hmmm, I don't remember seeing the throttle cable in the wiring
diagram....")

I never figured it out exactly, but yes, that's about it. The current
load is particularly high when you crank the starter and that's when it
finally froze up on me. Ever since I strapped the negative battery
terminal to a bolt on the frame and from that bolt to the engine, I
never had another problem with well-done throttle cables.

wow - really - never would have thought of THAT one - so - throttle
cable to brake pedal to body ??
