I had the exact same problem. 

Your best bet is to get a silicone gasket, and follow the manufacturers 
instructions.  Basically, you glue one side to the valve cover. 

The company name is "gasket innovations".  They sell them on ebay all 
the time.

One I had gotten leaked because it had a slight crease in it, and 
without hesitation, they sent a brand new one, which sealed it up nicely.
