I have seen this problem since 1969.

I was wondering when someone was going to bring it up.

Short answer...

Drill out & sleeve shock or go oversize with bolt and use socket head bolt.

Just tightened up the TR3A rear shocks after listening familiar annoying
clunking. Although this is moot point now.
