The FOT list has been very quiet lately. So I thought I would pass this
e-mail along to see if anyone would like to contact Ian directly (He is
not on this list) and provide tuning suggestions for his TR4A.

Please send your comments directly to Ian Cowie, ianhome@acohs.com.au

Hi,

My name is Ian, and after spending countless hours looking for competition
info, today!!!! I finally found your board, along with salient comments
from
God himself (Mr. Kastner.)

I am running (to best of my knowledge) the only TR4A in competition in Oz.
Its best described as warm, with a cam lift 0f 43 and about 8% improvement
in gas flow in the head. Compression still about 9.2:1. I am running oil
cooler, balanced bottom end and whipped ten or so pounds off the fly
wheel.
During 2000 I was able to beat most Tr 6 going around, and a very quick
TR3A
built by a mate of mine with shot peening, 12:1 comp, 50 odd thou cam lift
etc etc on on day at Phillip Island GP circuit by 1/100th. Of a second:
2.08.001. Great day! Since then I even did better 2.07.00.

Anyway, I am now in the process of considering upgrading to full circuit
racing and was told that in order to do so I would have to remove my
lovely
type 13 Webers with the HS6 SU the car came with. So I have dutifully
replaced them and have ordered a in car CO2 meter and new needles (TL/TW),
springs (Yellow), and ram horns in preparation. This is all because I have
been told by the gurus here that Triumph did not homologate the TR4/A with
Webers.

I have to run in Group SB (post 1966) I am up against a whole heap of
super-cars up to three liters from that era. Group SA has the TR2/3
(pre 1966) and is more competitive.

I am hoping that I can make the car competitive, and a few more horses
and
top end power will help a lot. I have noticed a loss of top end with the
SU,
and max HP is happening under 5000 RPM. Falling off smartly after that. I
think too from the dyno readings we got bad fuel/air ration above 5000
revs.

Hope to talk again soon

Regards
