Just had this question come up with OD rebuild done by Quantum Mechanics.
John Esposito of Quantum advises appropriate lube is 40wt non-detergent (for
hotter/southern climate use 50wt ND)

I have always followed the Triumph recommendation of gear oil- which worked
fine, but all the big Healey guys insisted on 40wt ND in their ODs.

John did mention that synthetic is ok but will cause GBX to have severe
leakage problems

I'm going to try 50wt ND as he recomended

Good luck - Jack Coffey - TR250

Hello,
A friend of ours just got his TR4a tranny and OD rebuilt. The rebuilder
told him to run 30 wt oil in it instead of the gear oil all the books we
have say to use. Dad put the typical 80 wt type stuff in "Mom's" car, but it
never worked right, didn't want to stay engaged. What say the experts on
this list? How about for racing or auto-x use?
