In addition to the pumping forces provided by the spinning gears (don't
those look a lot like pump impellors in there ?), convection could also play
a role.  Cooler oil is more dense than hot oil, so the cool oil from the
reservoir will run in under the hot oil in the diff.

But I suspect the gears do most of the moving.
