I didn't ask the critical question "is the head ported" but it sounds  
like it isn't. You don't need to machine the head further, a die  
grinder is an easy way to match the edges. As long as you don't get  
in too deep you won't have problems with breaking through to water  
passages.

David Vizard has a decent book on head porting that includes a scheme  
for TR3/4. Frankly I wouldn't go that far, I've spent a lot of time  
on a flow bench with Triumph heads, and sliced one up to get a look  
at the cross sections. They're pretty hopeless. The only way I can  
see to get them to flow well is really radical changes and that  
requires very tricky welding. You don't want to do that.

Other folks seem to have had better luck with porting. Both Uncle  
Jack and Greg Solow come immediately to mind but neither of them may  
be ready to share any hard-earned secret recipies.
