Back when I first raced my TR4A (solid axle) I ran zero offset wheels (hub =
interface exactly centered in the wheel) plus one-inch spacers. =C2=A0I had=
 to notch the rear springs as shown in your picture because the slicks of t=
he day (1979-84) would move in and out by well over over an inch and rub th=
e springs. =C2=A0Now, running the same set up with 7 inch wheels (legal in =
HRG with whom I almost always run, John) and the Hoosier TDR 23 x 7.5 x 15 =
they never touch the stock-width springs. =C2=A0Note that the=C2=A0TR4A sol=
id axle springs are very similarly spaced from the hub as the TR3, not as f=
ar in as on the 4.

There is this thing called scrub radius. When the factory engineers designe=
d your car they set it in a proper position. If you add spacers or get tall=
er tires or shorter tires or install the wrong rims you can make your car d=
angerously unstable at worst or at least make parts wear out and or break i=
mportant bits causing a crash. Making a racecar unstable is not a good idea=
. If you do not know where the scrub radius is on your front tires...maybe =
you should. Attached is a simple look at what can get very complex and dang=
