 When I raced at a long track with some tight turns, like Road Atlanta or R=
oad America, I used a 4.3 rear end gear with the Dolomite close ratio gears=
 and an A-Type overdrive.=C2=A0 This combination gave me a good second gear=
 for the tight turns (e.g. turn 7 at Road Atlanta), and the overdrive gave =
me a good top end for the long straights at both tracks.
Turns 5 and 6 at Road America is a good example of where you might use 2nd =
gear direct for turn 5, an upshift into 2nd overdrive on the hill up to tur=
n 6, then back down to 2nd direct for turn 6.

FWIW, 2nd o/d is awesome for an autocrosser.=C2=A0 ;-)
