i have had two 576 fog lights mounted on the front valence for over 12 years 
without any L brackets.  instead i used a U rubber piece which fits over the 
top of the bumper arms and provides support for the valence.  in my opinion, 
you need a steel valence rather than one of the aluminum ones.  the L bracket 
would probably be adviseable for the larger flamethrowers.
