Hi Gerald: I have successfully stopped leaks by thorough cleaning followed
quickly by a liberal coating of JB Weld epoxy. However on one occasion no
amount of epoxy would stop the leak because I never really found the source
of the leak until I removed the gearbox. When I finally pulled the gearbox,
I found that the rear overdrive housing was cracked near where the
stabilizer bar attaches underneath.
I believe there are no gaskets where the rear housing attaches to the front
housing with the brake ring in between. So If your leak appears in the area
of the brake ring or stabilizer bar, you may have the same problem as I did.
You might remove the stabilizer bar and with a bright light and perhaps a
magnifying glass look carefully for a crack.
