Hey Tom.
Don't fret! If there is half a chance of getting a bit of grip from the
remaining threads that'll be enough for what I propose.
Take a 1-1/2" bolt that has about 1/2" of unthreaded shank below the head
(the grip length), and cut the head off. File a couple of flats on the end
so that you can use a 1/4"AF open end spanner (wrench) on it. Wind the stud
into the top hole with a liberal dose of loctite. This then acts as a
simple locating dowel. Bolt up the bottom fixing in the usual way.
Job done.

I am hoping someone on the list has been down this road before. I just
finished installing the trans on my BJ8 after replacing the clutch,
refurbishing the trans, etc. I was bolting up the clutch slave cylinder and
the threads in the top hole stripped. It's a 3/8 fine thread bolt. There is
very little space to work with in there. About 2.5 inches clearance, so its
impossible to get a drill or tap in there unless I can find a short tap. I
really don't want to pull the trans again if there is any alternative. Your
thoughts will be greatly appreciated.
