Bill,
Something sounds a little odd here. I don't understand about the bolts vs
bearing. To get the hub off the housing, pull the axle out, reverse it, and
use the small nuts to pull on the hub until it is just about free of the
housing. Then you can probably pull it the remainder by hand. Once the hub
is on the bench, you should extract the seal with a seal remover tool or a
screwdriver. Then you should be able to tap the bearing out with a wooden or
brass dowel, tapping 180 degrees apart. A machine shop isn't necessary for
this operation.
