Simon,
Originally the 6 cylinder roadster dash tops were slightly padded with a
thin layer of coach wadding to give the thin leathercloth very slight
"loft". The leading edge was padded with a half round moulded rubber piece.
The later convertibles used 1/8" foam for padding.
Today most are using a very thin 1/8" foam under appropriately grained thin
vinyl to achieve the same results.
The Hundred has no padded dash top, but continues the painted shroud with
body coloured demister vent strips, and a continuous anodized cockpit rail.
