Ned,
I had an MGA caliper that had a similar problem.  There is a repair kit 
available that upgrades it to a larger size and has a smaller diameter 
bleed screw already as part of it.  Worked great.
Check around at your local auto parts stores, places like NAPA rather 
than Pep Boys or equal.
