Bill, when I was testing my float/gauge combination on the workbench I
noted a similar behavior of the needle while moving the float. If you
look at the path of the current you'll see that the current has to pass
through the hinge point of the float arm, so from a moving part (the
arm) to a rigid point (the sender housing). To see whether my ideas were
correct I soldered a flexible wire to the float arm and connected the
other end to the housing - the gauge needle now moves smoothly. I
attach a picture of what I did (Sorry listers, you won't see that!).
