As a new member to the List I would like to thank everyone in advance who
would care to comment on questions that I'm sure have been answered many
times. After driving my 67 BJ8 from Florida to San Diego in March (about 2700
miles) with no problems I am now experiencing a failure of the OD to drop out
of OD. I've read the comments in the Archives and have checked electrical
operation which seems fine. The symptoms are like Neal G.
described....."feels like something is under the wheels" when carefully
starting to back up so I don't attempt to backup. Ocaisonally though backing
results in a free wheeling action in the OD ie. a slight growling sound and
apparent failure to lock in either direct or overdrive resulting in no
movement of the car.
My question... can a tug of war between the hydraulic pressure and spring
pressure result in the clutch hanging between either locked position. Is it
possible that the hydraulic pressure is not bleeding off as fast as it
should?
I have ND 30 wt oil in the transmission and OD.
Thanks again for any suggestions
