I'm not sure how accessible the lock washer tab is for unbending with the
engine installed in the car, but if it's not accessible and I were going to
remove the nut, I'd just give the starter method a try again.

Although I got away last time without any inner sheetmetal damage (the loud
BANG did scare the crap out of me), next time I would put a piece of 2 x 4
against the LH side inner fender/wing, then turn the engine with the wrench
until the wrench was securely against the wood before hitting the starter
button.

Actually I've used the starter method on several cars.  Probably the easiest
methid I've used.  Really works great, but make sure everything is clear
before hitting the button.  Also recommend unbending the tab first.
