This thread quickly got off the Healey track. I would like to bring it
back somewhat.

Playing the Devils Advocate I say that there is no black and white when it
comes to air pollution.
When I send an e-mail regarding new or pending California law that could
affect our vehicles, it
may sound selfish on my part, but I am concerned for our cars. That does
not mean that I am against
clean air. I find, however, that whenever any effort is made to reduce
pollution, someone will take aim at
older cars assuming that they are all gross polluters and must be removed
from the road. They do
not consider the well maintained vehicles that we own. In their narrow
view, ANY vehicle over
a certain age is assumed to be a gross polluter and must be taken off the
road.

As California goes, so do other states so this is not a California only
issue and we must remember
that for every action taken, there are consequences both economic and
social.

There are those who advocate clean air at all costs which could include the
elimination of all
older vehicles. Sound far fetched? Dont bet on it! If we are to
continue to enjoy our LBCs, there must be a
balance that can benefit both our hobby and the need for clean air. If
not, the only place we will
enjoy them is in a museum - unless they have all been relegated to the
crusher. There ARE
extremist environmentalists out there who would be happy to see THAT.
