Mark,
I use my heater somewhat regularly in Northern Califirnia. New core and
new valve. I vary the temp control from near fully cool to halfway hot
during the course of the commutes with the top up. With the top down, I
have had the control lever to fully hot very occasionally. I would
suggest keeping the inside car valve. I think it does as advertised.
I think foam weather strip works ok for the seal you are asking about.
