All new cars since about 1980 have had a way to shut off the fuel in 
case of an accident if the car was equipped with an electric fuel 
pump. Most have an inertia switch in the power side going to the fuel 
pump relay, they usually are mounted on the inside kick panel behind 
the upholstery trim.
