The production and sales data is out on the net but if you look where a lot=
 of the Austin Healeys where sold, like the US, the 1950=E2=80=99s and 60=
=E2=80=99swere about bigger more powerful cars with four door sedans being =
the top sellers. Couple that with an increasing importation of cars to the =
US, around 22,000 cars imported when Austin Healey came on the scene in 195=
3. There were multiple times more imported by the end of big Healey=E2=80=
=99s run in 1967. When the US started to want more economical cars, Ford Fa=
lcons and the like in the mid 60=E2=80=99s,  Japan was already producing si=
milar cars that were less expensive. The US production of cars had just abo=
ut doubled during the AH run.  There were lots of choices other than a AH. =
As someone has stated previously, timing is everything.

Exactly, they were no longer selling, thus the low number. Somehow, at some=
 point, someone mentioned how few were made, and for some reason beyond com=
mon sense, =C2=A0these cars became sought after.

The number was so low as nobody wanted them as there was a better alternati=
ve in the BT7, even the Bn7s were cheaper than the better looking and more =
praticable BT7s.
Now some try to tell they are so rare they should be worth much more. They =
are rare as nobody wanted them.=20

Yes, they should be able to answer such questions if they were willing to d=
o it.=C2=A0 To my knowledge, the archive staff will provide a certificate w=
ith original build data for a given chassis number when requested and paid =
for, or they will respond to a single question about a given chassis number=
 when submitted through a "web request" at their website and paid for; but =
I don't think they will go through all the records to total up a certain ch=
aracteristic for the cars in general.=C2=A0 That's what Anders Clausager di=
d to produce his book.=C2=A0=20
At the moment, the public is free to go there in person and research for th=
emselves, with pre-arrangement with the staff.=C2=A0 Given recent changes a=
t BMIHT, I'm not certain even this option will last too much longer.

'62, 141 over 3 months is 47 per month.=C2=A0 So pick a rate for part of=20
November and December. 141 plus 60?=C2=A0 Gets around 200?

About 59% of the cars in the registry are center shift, based on the VIN=20
of the first car HBN7/16039.=C2=A0 59% of 355 is 210.

Seems like this is a question the archivists at the British Motor Museum=20
