A small, but important point. Be sure to use the correct item #116-the=
=0Abushing for the shifter. The earlier cars used a brass bush, and the=
=0ABJs used a plastic one. They are not interchangeable. Hank=0A=0A=09--=

=09Listeners: =0A=0A=09I wrote the letter below to the Group with no res=
ponse, so maybe it=0Awent astray. Meanwhile, I researched the archives f=
or information and=0Afound the following: =0A=0A=09the thing happened to=
 me w/ my center shift BT7 MK2, except I was=0Astuck in =0A=0A=09reverse=
. Very inconvenient Shift lever just flopped around, and would=0Anot =0A=
=0A=09engage anything. =0A=0A=09The small bottom "ball" of the shift lev=
er had come out of its socket=0Ain the =0A=0A=09remote shift rod that go=
es into the top of the transmission. =0A=0A=09you have a Moss catalog, l=
ook at page 84, item #31. It is N/A, but=0Ayou =0A=0A=09can make one. Pu=
ll off the console and the cover of the transmission.=0AIf =0A=0A=09my p=
roblem is the same as yours, one of the small "tits" on the end=0Aof the=
=0A=0A=09bolt that goes into the side of the shift tower has broken off=
which=0Aallows =0A=0A=09the shift lever to go past its normal range and=
disengage from its=0Asocket. =0A=0A=09This "tit" fits into a slot in th=
e side of the big ball on the shift=0Alever, =0A=0A=09controlling its si=
de-to-side motion. If the lever goes too far to one=0Aside =0A=0A=09of t=
he other, it comes out of the socket and flops around. =0A=0A=09Get a lo=
ng bolt w/ the same threads as the broken one, check the=0Aoverall =0A=
=0A=09length, turn the end down so it will fit into the slot, and you ar=
e=0Adone. =0A=0A=09So, I followed those instructions and found the tits=
were worn and no=0Alonger fitting into the groove in the ball. My frien=
d the machinist=0Awas going to make new bolts, when we decided to remove=
the thick lock=0Awashers and screwed bolts into the groove of the ball.=
With a little=0Aadjustment of the length of the bolt into the grove, we=
got the=0Ashifter to go through all the gears. My question to the Group=
, is this=0Athe finished product? Or should we make new longer bolts. Do=
es and one=0Aknow the length, and so on? =0A=0A=09As I looked on the Mos=
s catalog, I noticed that there should have=0Abeen a bushing at the bott=
om of the of the shift stick. The into=0Asocket the shift stick rides is=
not too worn, so I am hoping that a=0Anew bush and circle clip, bearing=
