When I had my cam ground during the restoration, the machine shop recomm=
ended that I have the original lifters resurfaced and hardened, rather than b=
uy replacements.
</div>=20
<div>
This is going back a few years and there are now more options available.=
Some of those lifters pitted after 5, or 6 thousand miles, and some looked f=
ine.
</div>=20
<div>
I decided that the ones that pitted were not hardened properly=E2=80=A6a=
n assumption I know!
</div>=20
<div>
I corresponded with Mike Salter who was having lifter problems of his ow=
n, and in the end I replaced the whole set with the modified ones from AH sp=
ares because I no longer trusted the re-hardened set- and also removed the i=
nner valve springs.
</div>=20
<div>
</div>=20
<div>
After a few hundred miles the new lifters looked OK, but I=E2=80=99m abo=
ut to check them again, this time after a couple of thousand miles.
</div>=20
<div>
I=E2=80=99ve been doing a lot of reading about bucket lifters, tubular p=
ush rods, etc. and it seems that some people are saying the current replacem=
ent lifters are wearing prematurely because they are not domed properly and a=
ren=E2=80=99t rotating.
</div>=20
<div>
Just to add to the confusion, when I removed the set that were pitting, I=
could see by the pattern on the wear surface that indeed some didn=E2=80=99=
t seem to be rotating, but had no visible wear, whereas the worn ones seemed=
to be rotating.
</div>=20
<div>
What I=E2=80=99m throwing out to the list is - I wonder if anyone has ex=
perience with the tubular pushrod/ bucket lifter combination=E2=80=A6or any o=
ther alternatives.
</div>=20
<div>
I don=E2=80=99t know what I=E2=80=99m going to find after a couple of th=
ousand mikes, but I=E2=80=99d like to be ready with a strategy if there=E2=80=
=99s a problem.
</div>=20
<div>
And Mike, if you=E2=80=99re monitoring the list, what kind of lifters di=
d you use in the end?
</div>=20
<div>
</div>=20
<div>
Thanks,
</div>=20
