Tim:

There are several things to check.

1) The clutch may need adjusting according to the workshop manual, but
when properly adjusted and without excess loose components, it does
disengage early during the pedal depression.

2) Check that all of the linkage pins are not worn nor the holes
through which they pass. The XPAG clutch system is known for wear in
the linkage system.

3) If the car still has the original cable system, there may be more
slack because of cable stretch than cars using the later rod system.

4) Clutch judder has serveral causes among them: Oil on the clutch
disk. Rust on the flywheel and pressure plate due to inactivity, loose,
worn or oil soaked engine mounts, slop or play in the drive shaft
ujoints, worn or oil soaked rubber axle pads, loose axle clamps, etc.
