Kevin:

I have an SD1 in a Westfield SEiGHT -- a derivative of a Lotus 7. My engine
set up is similar to yours, though I've swapped my dual port and Holley for
an Edelbrock carb and manifold. My distributor, which also has a twin
vacuum unit, has a Crane pickup which, I believe, is similar to your
Lumination module.

I use only vacuum advance, not retard, and time the engine for 34 degrees
maximum advance with vacuum disconnected. Maximum advance on my distributor
comes in about 3000 to 3400 RPM. That arrangement seems to work well,
though I will be dyno tuning the car later this month .

With the Rover's 6" crank pulley, 34 degrees is 1.78" to the right of the
TDC mark.

It may be useful to verify your TDC using a pencil or ??? placed through the
#1 spark plug hole. I've heard that some Rovers have variance in their TDC
pointer.
