This past wekend I replaced my MGBGT 4 speed with a Overdrive unit.
Total time to pull engine and replace the trans was apporx 15 hrs but
this included spending time cleaning and painting the engine and engine
bay.
Suggestions :
Even if the box looks perfect replace at least the front and rear
seals. Cost was less than $10.00 and it is a real no brainer taking
only a few minutes.
I also replaced the carbon block (throw out bearing) since it was quit
worn and was not going to last the rest of the clutch life.
OD used the same drive shaft the only thing I had to change was the
speedo cable. and make a two wire harnest. ( If you have the OD
switch on the wiper stalk you will find the wire right under the fuse
box , yellow and green i think).
I'd suggest connecting the wires to the switches before the engine and
box drop the final foot or two into place. Once on the mounts I had a
problem fitting the wire on to the spade.
The results were the best four hundred I have ever spent on a car.
The OD makes going down the highway a pleasure. It is amazing what a
700 RPM drop will do .
