While the goal of your vintage MGB "to be a daily driver without problems" is
probably not in the cards, I can attest that my '67 B has been close to that
for well over 100,000 miles.  I have had absolutely no issues with the
gearbox, the generator (have replaced brushes) nor the starter.  The rear end
howls, howevr, and has been doing that for approximately 5 years.  (I finally
decided to minimize the noise permanently by refusing to mount my hardtop.) I
would recommend the 67, obviously.  It also seems you have found a very sound
bodied car.  Have fun.
