Well it certainly has nothing to do with a rebuid, but doesn't driving 
without oil (or too little) affect the rod bearings first? (I don't 
really know why, it's just a feeling...)
A friend of mine changed rod brgs only on a Lancia Monte Carlo (Scorpion 
in US) because of a slight brg noise. The old brgs looked pretty bad, but 
the crank was still good. He never had any problems after that. The 
engine only had 40k on it though... (that's probably the key issue here).
