I did not. I just made sure it was NOT in gear and let the steering
wheel turn free.
Similarly, when I was 17, I towed my Datsun B210 (another "B") from
Myrtle Beach, SC home after a great week of partying. Burned up the clutch
and repaired it at home. Didn't disconnect the drive shaft. Seem to recall
that I rented a tow bar from UHAUL or some hardware rental place. The tow
bar had an assembly in which a plate slid between the bumper and the car.
Two large bolts were used to secure that plate to one arm of the tow bar.
Likewise, the other arm of the tow bar was identical. Hooking up that
Datsun to my fathers VB Bus was the easiest thing . You may want to check
around to see if you can locate something like this or try to fashion your own.
