Just wondering what model and year MG it is.

Sorry, but I don't follow the logic behind 'you need extra amps available
just because it's old.'  Unless you're running an outrageous compression
ratio, a single 12V will provide all the juice you need.  Even if it
doesn't, you can always hootch in another 12V in parallel with the first,
and still spend less than on two 6V's.

The originality aspect can probably be ignored, since substituting one
12V for two 6V's shouldn't require any permanent modifications.  At
worst, you'd have to bolt the grounding cable to the chassis at a more
convenient location or get a longer cable.
