Okay, since we're on the topic of shop safety, here's another tip my local
MG specialist gave me. Although many on the List may already know this, I'm
sure the newbies would like to hear it.

1) For the safety of your B, more than anything else, only jack it by the
pumpkin(transfer case) in the rear, or that big, burly cross-member in the
front, if you're using a hydrolic floor-jack. Otherwise, the suspension
points will suffice. Anything else, and you risk damaging your B. Don't
use the facory jack! These can slip out of place, and.."SCRAPE/SLAM"!

2) Here's the people-safe part. When jacking on the front cross member, be
sure two of the teeth on the floor jack are hanging off behind the member,
especially if you're lifting it high. Otherwise, the car can actually slip
off the jack, causing major damage to your car, and possibly yourself. You
may think this sounds unlikely, especially if you're using chocks (which you
always should), but the fellow who told me this has been working on Bs for
30 years, so I'll take his word for it! :)

Regards,

J
