My '67 MGB GT has a 1978 engine, courtesy of the DPO, which has very
tired valve springs and other valve related ailments. I also have a
pair of cylinder heads I rescued from a southern California wrecking yard a
couple of years ago, and my SO would prefer I "waste" as little money
as possible on my car. One of the heads is an early style, with no
air-injection ports, and is in need of new valves, seats, and other
things which die with age and use. It appears to be structurally
sound. The other is a somewhat later vintage, with the ports, but
still has the "horn" in the combustion chambers. It has almost new
valves, double valve springs, keepers, etc, but alas, appears to
have been subjected to a deep freeze, and is very, very badly
cracked. The valves in both heads are the same diameter (1.563
intake, 1.345 exhaust).

If I have new seats and valve guides fitted in the older head, is
there any reason I can't use the entire valve train from the later
engine in it (except for the rocker stands)?

Regards,
Jerry Causey
