I don't have much experience with SUs, and I also don't know who
rebuilt them, but, are you quite positive that they are jetted
properly? I had a similar problem using a Weber. The car would idle
fine but only with the choke on (rich mixture). When I would drive the
car and shift into 2nd gear, the car would bog down and lose all power.
Turned out the problem was that the air corrector jets were 4 sizes too
big. Don't know if this helps, but....
