My '58A has a Nash Metropolitain engine under the bonnet. Serial number
IH24004.
It has a boss for the tach drive but it is not machined. It also has on the
carb side of
the block another boss that was for a mechanical fuel pump. This I had to cover
with a
plate since the MGA uses an electric pump. When I installed this engine back in
'69 I of
course used the dual SU's off the original engine, along with the MGA header.
The only
noticeable difference was lack of the mechanical tach, power and fuel
consumption seemed
to be the same. So if the block is stamped 1500 under the carbs and the head is
stamped
15 you have a 1500 power plant minus a tach drive. You could have a shop
machine the
boss or as many have done when slipping MGB engines in, use an early 'B Tach.
