You probably have a worn cam.  Replace the cam and the lifters.  If
you get a regrind cam, parts cost is about $150.  If you try to reduce
valve noise by decreasing valve clearances below spec, the car
won't run right and you will damage your valves and head.  You also
may have loose rockers.

You have to pull the radiator and timing chain cover to do this.  It
is a mess no matter how you do it.
