I agree with this, but. . .
Many moons ago, when I was maybe 20 or so, I had a friend who was taking
nightly auto repair classes at the community college. He prevailed upon me
to let him take the B (with which he and I traded ownership for a decade or
so, but that's another story) to their shop for a free oil change and
tune-up. He thought it would be nice to expose the good ol' boys to some
fine British craftsmanship. I wait around, watching them work, looking at
some of the other stuff they've got about, listening to the, "Two
batteries?" "Positve ground on this sucker." "What? Carbs?" "More legroom
than I'd a thought." "Bet this handles." Eventually everything is done and I
head home.
At home I get out of the car I notice the smell of burning oil. Not strong
but. . .wait, there is a trail of oil behind the car! I check the oil level
-- low. Very low. I look under car, oil all over filter canister. I top up
with oil and drive back to college. It was easy to get back, I just followed
the oil trail. They have pinched the canister seal and burred it and thus it
cannot be stopped leaking. B has to sit over night so they can get another
gasket from autostore in morning. Ah well, it was free, and the tune up part
went well!:>
