I received 97 responses on first message.. one even said I was a real dummy
for taking a car after it had been sitting in a field for 6 years.. I
couldn't agree more.. and my wife reminds me of that almost weekly..
anyhow, my next question..

after most everything else was working well enough to drive daily, the
engine ran hot all the time.. I figured it was stuck thermostat so bought a
new one (regulation)... did not change situation.. a local foreign car
mechanic here (retired) said that he had always recommended that MG people
take the thermostat out all together.. I did that and the engine has not
run hot... of course, it also does not provide much heat in the winter but
we live in Georgia... my question is, will this cause some long term engine
damage because of running below appropriate operating temperature???

besides a spoonful of brake fluid in the cylinder, does anyone have an idea
to release frozen rings... only one set of rings did not begin functioning
properly when engine was started after long sit in field.. hate to rebuild
$$$$$$$ engine for just one set of frozen rings..
