Ross: Thank you for your comments. I also have heard only good reports
about the improvement in the shifting, temperature and noise levels of
boxes filled with Redline. What I haven't heard are reports from owners
who have used it over long period of time as to the condition of the
gears. I think it was Skip Kelsey who told me he has used it for a
good number of years with good results, but I am not sure if he has
dismantled a box to see what it looks like.

I have absolutely no knowledge about the technical aspects of oil. I am
concerned, however, that a client of mine is comtemplating using Redline
oil in a box which I have just totally rebuilt for him at great expense,
and I have no indication as to the longevity of costly gears using
synthetic oil.

I can only presume that if Redline reduces friction to a greater extent
than a 'normal' mineral oil, such as Castrol 80W90, then there must be a
greater long term benefit. It would be good to hear from anyone on the
list who has both used a synthetic for long periods of time, and who has
also disassembled a box for inspection, as to the apparent long term
effects.

Anyone there??

Geoff Love.
