I wrote to the group awhile back stating that what seemed like overnight my
oil pressure was lower than it used to be. I normally start the cold engine
(early '74 MGB) with about 75lbs. max pressure. After about a minute it
kicks down to about 60lbs. As the engine is warmed completely (mostly
steady freeway driving) the pressure levels out to around 55lbs.; 50lbs. at
the very lowest (usually in 90-100 degree F heat). Well, last month I
noticed that when the engine was fully warmed and driven about 10 minutes
on the freeway, the pressure was dropping to about 45lbs.

I serviced the B last month. I replaced the oil and put on a new Unipart
spin-on filter and hand tightened it as usual. Well, my pressure is back up
to where it always has been. The culprit was a Fram oil filter which was
obviously not working properly. (I had changed the oil only after I noticed
the drop in pressure, but this didn't change a thing). So, upon changing
the oil again and installing a 'real' filter, I've got the oil pressure
back up.

Try this on your MGA and see if it helps any. Also, replace your oil
pressure relief valve with a new one and see if this doesn't help your
pressure problems as well.

Good luck,
