6V Alternators

I talked to my Chrysler nut friend, he confirmed that the 6V alternator
was primarily for police cars in need of extra power for the police
equipment. Rare, in other words.
He brought up a good point, why bother with a 6V alternator when you
could get a 12V one and just adjust the voltage regulator down to 6
volts. 
Sounds good to me.
