Mike,

MOSS can provide you with the Heritage application if you send a small,
self- addressed, stamped envelope to them at 440 Rutherford Street,
Goleta, California  93117.  It cost $40 American, and Heritage now
accepts credit cards (so you can get the best exchange rate).  They'll
provide a complete record of what your car was like (equipment, color,
when built, etc.) when it was new.

Mike - only the latest cars had the paint code as part of the VIN.  For the 
others the 
most accurate source is to obtain a Heritage Certificate for your car from 
Gaydon.  The 
following has been copied from the WEB:-

Statement of origin.- fee of &pound;10.00. 

Technical data certificates -. The certificate details the technical data 
required to 
meet the relevant import regulations and costs from &pound;30.00.
