My only reservation about using undercoating is that the stuff I'm familiar
with stay soft and kind of gummy -- which is probably not be what you're
after on your inside floor (not familiar with the 3M product, so I could be
off base).  I'd be most concerned about it weeping through your carpet --
especially in light of the 'hotfoot' discussion over the last few days.

I'd considering using rocker panel rock-guard for this type of an
installation -- it'll dry hard, is moisture-proof, and should provide some
sound-proof qualities.  I believe this stuff is still flexible enough to
keep from cracking as well.  Glue should also stick to it for your carpets.
