My final vote is for an intake valve sticking at high speed, but mine did
it at 5000 rpm under full throttle when hot. And I can't recall any
backfiring through the carb, just cutting out, but at that speed maybe
there wasn't enough time for the backfire to get to the air cleaner
before it got sucked into another cylinder. The final cure was to pull
the head, disassemble all the valve gear, and hone the guides out for a
bit more clearance. Incidentally, this problem only occurred after a
fresh rebuild on the head, including new guides.

If you have spark, fuel, compression, and full cam, this is the only
thing left that I can think of. Somehow I think you're running into
valve float at way too low a speed. If it isn't a sticking valve, then
maybe a broken valve spring.
